Re: Longer WUs

We're currently working out some bugs in our code. When these are fixed, I'll be starting some simulations with longer WUs.

Re: Downloading issues

We've recently updated our clients and are testing them with the beta project. Thanks for pointing out this issue. I'll take a look at it this afternoon.

Re: didn't need??

We had a bug in our build system that caused some clients to hang. We'll be releasing new clients soon. I'll post an announcement when we do. Thanks for your help.

Right now, we only support Snow Leopard.

Re: Server issues?

Hi,
have a problem while downloading files on a Linux system.
Can't download files, while eOn needs 950 MB file space,

Message from server:
eOn client needs 211 MB more disk space, You currently have 740 MB free space available and it needs 954 MB.

Can you change these settings to a more ...

Re: Server issues?

Is it possible to change the number of tasks downloaded from 4 to (number of cores+2) or to 8? When a task is finished there's still a few minutes of cpu idle while waiting for the server connection.

Due to the nature of our current simulations, work units can lose usefulness quickly. As such ...

Re: RSS?

We don't actually have an RSS feed. Would it be helpful to have one? Would it just be easier if we just posted news in a sticky'd announcement thread?

Re: Mac issue

Right now, the Mac client is broken for OS X 10.4 and 10.5. It should work with 10.6. We will be making major changes to the client within the next few weeks, and will hopefully be able to provide a client that works on all intel macs.

Could you tell me what account name Gary tried to register ...

Re: constant scheduler requests

To answer your questions:

a) We don't have redundant computing set up because we are able to verify the correctness of work units with far less computation than re-running them.

b) You should now be able to get a constant stream of work. You can check the number available WUs at http://eon.ices ...

Re: Server issues?

Once we incorporate more accurate simulation methods, our WUs will be much longer and have checkpointing.

Re: all Works 2136951010_ .... in errors

Right now, we are restructuring the client code and cleaning up these errors along the way. This process could take a few weeks, but once finished, we should have longer and more stable work units. (We'll also be able to use more accurate simulation methods!)

Re: all Works 2136951010_ .... in errors

Thanks for reporting these. Have you seen many more failed work units? Our work units can encounter computation errors due to edge-cases and numerical error. Currently, our client gives a non-zero error code when this happens, which BOINC interprets as a failed work unit. We are working on a major ...
